We make our pieces between Algeria and France.
Our first residency in Algeria lasted 8 months.
The exploration of remote mountain villages, through trails and steep paths, allowed us to appreciate the diversity of the landscape and the local hospitality. On the other hand, we were confronted with the hazards of everyday life in these regions, which allowed us to strengthen our ability to adapt and our resilience.
Located in the mountainous and difficult to access region of the Djurjura, in Great Kabylia, this first residence was for us both exceptional and daring. Isolated from our daily life in Paris, we were totally immersed in the workshop and in the daily life of the craftsmen.
In Kabylia, we mobilize the know-how of local craftsmen we met during our trips.
They invited us to discover their working methods and specificities of the region. With our knowledge of ceramics already acquired, our objective was to exchange with the artisans our mutual savoir-faire through the medium of clay. We then integrated their workshop for a few months in order to build a privileged relationship before beginning our collaboration.
As designers, we do more than design. We make each of our pieces. With the artisans, we check the feasibility of the designs we create, and then the artisans turn the body of the pieces. Then we take over to make and install the handles and do the finishing work, glazing and firing of each of our pieces.
We like to go beyond existing techniques to create new processes and new renderings. That's why a big part of our work is based on all the experimentation we do during our creative phases.
